WHY VISIT
Pimatgol is a food alleyway that extends from Jongno 1-ga to Jongno 6-ga. During the Joseon Dynasty, when commoners walked along the main road and encountered an aristocrat, they had to bow down before them regardless of the circumstances. Finding this bothersome, more and more commoners chose to walk along the alleyways next to the main road. These alleyways would lead and connect to pubs, liquor shops, and gukbap (Rice Soup) stores, becoming a beloved place among commoners, and was aptly named “Pimatgol” a shortened form of “alleyway to avoid the horses”.
