WHY VISIT
In 1949, Biwon Tteokjip, known as "Grandma Hong's Tteokjip," first opened its doors. It all started when Grandma Hong Gannan's rice cakes, which she served at Changdeokgung Palace's Nakseonjae, caught the eye of Han Hee-soon Sanggung, the last court caterer of the Joseon Dynasty, who personally taught her the secrets of court rice cakes during the chaotic period after the liberation of Korea and before the Korean War. The shop, which used to make and sell rice cakes in a house near Changdeokgung Palace, still uses the same recipe for royal rice cakes that was presented to the king, and the entire process, from selecting the finest ingredients to making the rice cakes, is done 100% by hand. • This place has been selected as a 'Seoul Future Heritage'.
