The current owner, who inherited 'Grandma Gimbap' from his mother in 1980, reopened it as 'Handmade Gimbap' and has been in Tongin Market for two generations. At her mother's request, she helped her mother sell gimbap every day since she had just entered university. Her second daughter suggested, "Since your mother has a good taste, let's call it 'Sonmat Gimbap' instead of 'Grandma's Gimbap,'" hence the current name. Tongin Market also operates a unique experience where you can purchase gimbap with Ipjeon, a currency unique to Tongin Market, and use the packed lunch cafe.
