Euphoric Proliferation

WHY VISIT

Gallery Jiwooheon will host Euphoric Proliferation, an exhibition featuring Yi Young-uk and Jojae, from March 27th to May 4th. Both artists have recently received attention by winning awards for young artists at prominent domestic art museums. The exhibition focuses on their work, which is similar in the context of fragmenting, distorting, and amplifying images but differentiated by the abstract and figurative nature of the results. Since 2018, Yi Young-uk has been boldly exploring methods of redefining the concept of the subject. His distinctive theme revolves around creating bizarre patterns by repetitively distorting parts of human and animal bodies, which have become a hallmark of his work. JoJae's work originates in the virtual realm. Since 2016, she has been sculpturally translating digitally rendered images and their original analog counterparts. By shaping the gap between digital images and their unprocessed originals, she constructs a new sense of connection between the virtual and the real worlds. In this exhibition, Jojae presents works that extend from his ongoing “Crumbs Series,” which involves the reconstruction of urban landscapes and byproducts of digital images collected over time.
