The Garden of Simwon : Ink and Silence

WHY VISIT

Looking at nature closely resembles looking into one's own inner self. Park Kyung-mook's work contains the journey of reaching the silence of muk (默) through the material of meok (墨, ink). The traces of ink accumulated and permeated on the canvas are an accumulation of time and a process of thought, and the shapes resembling black rocks and islands, rather than explaining or defining something, allow the viewer to pause for a moment and observe their own mind. The path to Simwon (心源), the root of the mind where all thoughts begin, is not far away. Through the act of letting one's gaze linger along the deep empty spaces created by the ink, and quietly observing the vitality of trees that embrace a long period of time, we naturally confront our inner selves. The deep ink, the empty spaces, and the trees holding time form a single garden within the space. Rather than a real garden, it is a landscape of thought unfolding in the mind, and a place where one can stay for a while, catch their breath, and listen to the source of their inner self. The Garden of Simwon: Ink and Silence is a place where thoughts built up with ink and landscapes formed by time meet.
