WHY VISIT
The 13th edition of the Seoul Mediacity Biennale, titled 'Spell – The Art of the Soul', will take place from August 26 to November 23, 2025, at the Seoul Museum of Art and various venues throughout the city. This biennale features newly commissioned works, recreations, and existing pieces by artists from around the world, drawing inspiration from the occult, mysticism, and spiritual traditions. It aims to offer the biennale as an “alternative technology” that counters the accelerating, rationalist logic of capitalist modernity and the political and intellectual structures that shape our lived experiences. As a “biennale that proposes mediumistic experience,” the exhibition explores the long-standing human desire to connect with worlds beyond conscious life and examines how communication with the spiritual realm has transformed the language and methods of artistic creation.
