WHY VISIT

Lee Tae-jun is recognized as an outstanding novelist in Korean literary history, but he also embodied various personas beyond literature. In the 1930s and 1940s, he was the editor of the prominent literary magazine Munjang, an antique enthusiast, the head of the cultural affairs department at a newspaper, a museum curator, and an art critic. Five creators—Kwon Hye-won (visual arts), Kim Seon-joo (architect), Kim Won-jin (visual arts), Park Sun-min (visual arts), and Layers Lab (book curation)—have brought Lee Tae-jun into the present-day. They immersed themselves in his life and literary works through a preliminary reading session. After more than six months of processing, they each transformed their experiences into creative works. This event is expected to create a space where literature and other forms of art can naturally meet across time, much like how Lee Tae-jun traversed the boundaries of art in the 1930s.
