In the 1930s, a small group of intellectuals led the trends in popular music. However, today, in the 2020s, it is the everyday young people from neighborhoods who shape these trends. Over the years, the hangout spots for young people have evolved with the times, from Jongno and Myeong-dong to Sinchon, Apgujeong, and Hongdae. This evolving diversity has provided the foundation for K-POP's global reach.
