WHY VISIT

The site was a previous residence for US military officers. It was named Sobinggo during the Joseon Dynasty because ice was stored nearby. It is now called Yongsan Garrison, including the site of the U.S. Army officers' quarters. Still, the American soldiers stationed in Yongsan right after the defeat of Japan did not call it Yongsan Garrison but Camp Sobinggo. From the Liberation to the Korean War, it was called Camp Sobinggo, but after the ceasefire agreement was reached, it was named Yongsan Garrison when the 8th US Army moved in.
