Lee Hoe-young Memorial Hall

WHY VISIT

Lee Hoe-young Memorial Hall is a space honoring the independence activist Woodang Lee Hoe-young, his five brothers, and their comrades. This house is one of the early 20th-century Western-style buildings constructed by Westerners who entered Seoul, along the hills of Hongpa-dong, Sajik-dong, and Haengchon-dong in the Seodaemun area. Reborn as the Lee Hoe-young Memorial Hall, this house possesses rich historical backgrounds and values even from an architectural history perspective. To remember its significance together, the Lee Hoe-young Memorial Hall gave this old Western-style building the nickname 'The Old House on Sajik-dong Hill' while reshaping the site. Mr. Lee Hoe-young devoted himself to the anti-Japanese independence movement, contributing his entire family wealth to establish the Shinheung Military Academy. At the Lee Hoe-young Memorial Hall, encounter the history of the independence movement expressed with modern aesthetics, alongside the stories of the finest family of the Joseon Dynasty, the greatest revolutionaries of Joseon, the people who turned darkness into light, and the people who turned orchid leaves into blades.
