Mugyewon

WHY VISIT

Mugyewon is a traditional cultural space located in Buam-dong, Jongno-gu. It is a restored hanok, reconstructed using materials from Ojinam, the first registered restaurant in Seoul. Nestled at the foot of Inwangsan Mountain, visitors can experience the serene beauty of Korean architecture and appreciate the tranquil scenery. The site of Mugyewon, known as Mugaejeongsa, was the villa of Grand Prince Anpyeong, the third son of King Sejong. Inspired by its resemblance to the utopian paradise he saw in a dream, Grand Prince Anpyeong built a pavilion where he composed poetry and practiced archery. This historically significant location is also where An Gyeon, the foremost painter of the time, created the famous "Dream Journey to the Peach Blossom Land" in just three days. Since its opening in 2014, Mugyewon has offered a variety of cultural programs, including performances, exhibitions, lectures, education, and hands-on experiences.
