WHY VISIT
The Son Kee Chung Memorial Hall honors the athlete and gold medalist, Son Kee Chung. The memorial hall opened on October 14th, 2012, marking the centennial anniversary of Son's birth. The memorial hall was once a school and was in fact Son's alma mater. Son Kee Chung was a gold medalist in the 1936 Berlin Olympics Marathon. Though Son Kee Chung was registered as a Japanese athlete, due to the Japanese occupation of the Korean peninsula, his victory was cherished and praised by Korean nationals. Visit the memorial hall to learn more about Son's life and how he won his gold medal. Admission is free and there are sometimes special exhibitions.
