WHY VISIT

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art at Deoksugung opened in 1998 as an annex of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea. The museum building, Seokjojeon Hall, is located at Deoksugung Palace. Seokjojeon Hall is an exquisite example of Western architecture from the early 20th century. It is the only Korean palace to have an outdoor garden and fountain designed in a Western style. The museum’s location inside the palace means that many visitors choose to combine their visit with a tour of Deoksugung. Jeongdong Park, the Seoul Museum of Art, and Namdaemun Market are some of the nearby tourist attractions. Admission fees vary depending on exhibition but visitors will be able to see beautiful works of art from Korean and international artists.
