WHY VISIT

The 1934 Dongnae Station Exhibition Hall, located in Dongnae-gu, Busan, is a historical and cultural space that reopened in 2025 after remodeling the former Dongnae Station of the Donghae Nambu Line. Its name comes from the year the station was built, 1934, and the site also carries the painful history of being used during the Japanese colonial period for colonial rule and resource exploitation. In the exhibition space, which makes use of the old waiting room, visitors can explore the history of railway development, records of events related to Dongnae Station, and stories of local independence movements such as student protests. The former office area is filled with photographs and documents depicting life in the 1950s and 1960s. There are also interactive programs, including a zone where visitors can try on a station master’s uniform, guided tours by cultural interpreters, and photo zones for commemorative pictures. Outside, a steam locomotive and sculptures are on display, creating a unique atmosphere where the past and present come together. More than a simple exhibition, the venue serves as a valuable cultural space where visitors can vividly experience the roots of Busan’s railway and the lives of its local people.
